Equality, Investigation and Perfection

Are all religions equal? Many people insist they are, but upon what basis are these claims made? Do all roads really lead to Heaven? Or Nirvana? Or Jannah? What about the happy hunting grounds? Or wherever it is the proponents of a particular philosophy seem to aspire to attain? How may one determine whether the various competing religions present truth in their belief systems? Is there really no substantial difference among them? What about those religions which insist upon exclusivity? That theirs is the only way and the only truth? If that claim is true, then all other religions are false; but if that claim is not true, then at least their religion is false.…

Jesus offers peace, hope, rest!

Jesus said… “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30) The world is in a turmoil today: War has displaced more people today than all of World War II did. Nations are threatening to bomb each other with nuclear weapons. Gangs walk the streets of our large cities looking for victims and rival gangs. Gunmen open fire on innocent crowds, and terrorists bomb marketplaces.

Genuine Christians forgive like Jesus

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots. (Luke 23:34) Most people find forgiveness to be a hard thing. Peter asked Jesus how often he should forgive his brother. He wondered if 7 times would be good enough. I get the feeling that he felt he was being generous by offering to forgive someone that often. But Jesus didn’t view it that way. He told Peter to forgive seventy times seven, which is 490 times! (See Matthew 18:21-35)

Discover why Jesus created you

What are you? Are you a tiny, meaningless cog within a huge perpetual motion machine that we call the universe? Maybe you are a miniscule blob of flesh that resulted from the largest explosion of all time—the one that people call The BIG Bang? Or, maybe you are a cluster of bits and bytes resulting from a line of code residing on some enormous computer programmed by an intelligent alien with a passion for complex simulations? If you subscribe to any of these concepts, then you are a meaningless placeholder. You are worthless except to take up space. You have no reason to exist. You have no purpose for being here. You are merely a…

Jesus can free you from sin!

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32 NKJV) Trapped! Most of us have felt like the man pictured in this sign. What do you think just happened? His wife left him? He was fired? He had a car accident?

“Love your enemies”

Love your enemies

Jesus Christ said this: But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:44-45) Jesus said this during the Sermon on the Mount. Matthew 5-7 It is not normal for people to love their enemies. Jesus not only taught us to do this, but gave us an example of how to do it. When the Roman soldiers nailed Him to the cross, He called out to God, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” How do you love your…

Beyond Reasonable Doubt Jesus is Alive!

Are you assured that Jesus is Alive? “Beyond reasonable doubt” is a legal term. A jury cannot consider a defendant guilty until there is no “reasonable doubt” in the mind of a “reasonable person” that he is guilty. Similarly, God does not expect people to believe that Jesus rose from the dead and that He is alive today without any reasonable evidence to support this claim. The Bible Tells Us What we know about Jesus is primarily learned from the Bible. Some people do not believe that Jesus is Alive, because they do not view the Bible as a reliable historical record. (If you want to learn more about the historicity of the Bible, we…

Genuine Christians obey Jesus’ teachings

People have had a problem with Jesus’ teachings since the very beginning of Christianity. His teachings are radical and unreasonable, they say. They are impossible to live by. Surely Jesus wouldn’t expect us to live like that? They push the Sermon on the Mount into a future dispensation so that they can ignore it. But Jesus himself said, “If you love me, you will keep my commands.”  (John 14:15)  Our goal with this billboard message is to encourage people to consider the teachings and example of Christ and to follow Him in obedience. In the book of Matthew Jesus calls us to love Him and obey Him and keep His commandments. He expects us to love…

“Come to ME and you will find REST”

Come to ME and you will find REST

Jesus Christ said this: Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV) Is your soul tired? Do you know what it feels like to have a tired soul? It’s different from having a body that is tired from working hard all day. That’s a good feeling, and it helps us to sleep at night. But having a tired soul isn’t a good feeling. It tends to keep us…

“Truth will set you free!”

Truth will set you free!

Jesus Christ said this: Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31-32 (NKJV) Are you free? It depends a little on how you define freedom. In the context of the passage quoted above (John 8:21-58), Jesus was talking with a group of Jews who had been listening to Him preach. He offered them freedom if they would become His disciples. Jesus’ offer offended them. They declared that they were free already. They were never in bondage to anyone, because they were children of Abraham. Why would Jesus promise…

What Are You Living For?

What Are You Living For

Joe Andrews, now middle-aged, was stopped short one day by the thought, Suppose I got everything I wanted—a better job, a new house, and more leisure time—would I be really satisfied? His honest answer was “No.” For many at middle age, bright hopes and dreams of youth grow dim. Defenses and pretenses begin to crumble. And a horrible, hollow emptiness remains. Life has lost meaning for many young people also. Suicides by teenagers and college students are all-too common. Life without God has no meaning. Years ago wise King Solomon wrote a book. His writings portray the pain and emptiness of life when God is left out. Solomon had walked many paths. He had drunk…

Good News! Freedom!

Good News! Freedom

Jim Wolf (not his real name) spent more than seven years behind bars. But he spent more years than that in the bondage of sin. As a youth, Jim spent much of his time on the street selling drugs, breaking into people’s houses, stealing, lying, cheating. Those years brought a harvest of trouble. Fights. The law. Jail. Jim’s last crime landed him a sentence of over 50 years in a state prison. By this time he was going by an alias, but in prison he was merely a number. A human failure. Socially, morally, and spiritually bankrupt. In prison Jim finally hit bottom, and finally at the bottom, he met God. He genuinely repented of…

What Jesus Did for Me

When we begin to understand and accept what Jesus Christ has done for us, we will be moved to love Him, to obey Him, to honor Him, to please Him, and to praise Him. Let’s consider a few of the things He has done for us. 1. Jesus became poor . . . Ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich (2 Corinthians 8:9). . . . that in Him I can become spiritually rich.

The Matchless Pearl

A HEAVY SPLASH was followed by many ripples, and then the water below the pier was still. An American crouched on the low Indian pier, his eyes riveted on the place where a stream of little bubbles rose to the surface from deep under the water. In a moment a black head appeared and a pair of bright eyes looked up. Then the old Indian pearl diver was clambering onto the dock, grinning and shaking the water from his shining, oily body. “As nice a dive as I’ve ever seen, Rambhau!” cried David Morse, the American missionary. “Look at this one, sahib,” said Rambhau, taking a big oyster from between his teeth. “I think it’ll…

Jesus Christ is Coming

Jesus Christ is coming again. The Bible says so. But why is He coming? What will He do when He comes? Why should His coming be important to me or you? To help answer those questions, let’s review why He came the first time. Why Did Jesus Come the First Time? Jesus said about Himself, “The Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). God created us. Each of us has sinned and become guilty before God. We deserve eternal punishment. God, however, loves us and wants to save us from that punishment. He sent His Son Jesus to die as a sacrifice for our sins so…

Where will you be five minutes after you die?

Where Will You Be Five Minutes After You Die

THIS IS ONE of the most serious questions you will ever have to face. Where will you be five minutes after you die? No one can deny the fact of death. It was Ponce de Leon who came to Florida in 1569 searching for a fountain of water which would bring perpetual youth to all who drank of it. But no such fountain has ever been found. Ponce de Leon died just as everyone must die. Since death is so certain, our main concern should be to find out where we shall be after death. Jesus told of a “certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:…
