Fall on This Stone

February 5, 2019

Good Morning Fellow Travelers,

Read: John 5:19-47

“And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.” Matthew 21:44

Our surrender to the lordship of Christ is supremely important. In fact, it is essential to our salvation. As the text says, we either fall on Christ and are broken, or He falls on us in judgement. He calls us to a life of self-denial that leads us into a life the flesh would never want to live.

He may call some of us, as He did Peter, to leave the nets of commerce behind. Maybe we rebel against this because so many other Christians are still fishing. That does not matter. For you, being a follower of Christ is a call to leave business behind. Any attempt to contradict the Master will surely result in spiritual calamity. Fall on this stone.

He may call some of us to work in obscurity, without a lot of attention coming our way. Other Christians seem to be in the front lines, getting all the attention. Maybe you are locked up because of your faith in Christ, like Paul. Others are set ahead and honored, but you are forgotten. Fall on this stone.

The Holy Spirit may keep you small through sickness and diminishing usefulness. Maybe you try to do what you had done easily before, but now you cannot do it right or well at all. Do you work so hard and then others get the credit for it? Fall on this stone.

He may even call us to poverty as He did the beggar Lazarus. We may not be lying sick at someone’s gate, but due to things beyond our control we have lost a huge sum of money. He has brought you to a helpless dependence on Him. All around you others prosper in business, but you struggle.

Fall on this stone.

Let us settle something right now. Give God the full and complete right to order your affairs, by giving your allegiance no matter the cost.
