What is Truth?

Does truth really exist? How can we know? Who is capable of defining truth?

In answer to these questions perhaps we could ask, “Does the sun shine? Can water freeze? Is life real?” The answers to these questions demonstrate that truth does in fact exist. These are things that can be verified by scientific testing.

However, science is incapable of testing that which is above the physical plane. Science is powerless to measure the truth about God and the power of His Word. Yet how can a person doubt the creative design of God when holding a newborn baby? How can one question His power when observing a life that He has transformed?

Truth, through the power of God, can transform a porn-addicted, arrogant man into a pure, humble husband whose character is Christ-like and loving. Truth will become evident to you when you apply the law of God to your life, find redemption through the sacrifice of Jesus, and allow your life to be directed by the Holy Spirit which God gives to every believer. Have you tried spiritual truth? It is waiting for you.

  1. Getting baptized is great, but that won’t get you to heaven unfortunately.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.” We can’t do anything to get ourselves to heaven, it’s only through God’s Son. Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” but the great news is that if you read just a bit further it says in Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” The only thing we can do to get to heaven is by realizing that we aren’t good enough and nothing we do will make us good enough. But God’s Son Jesus Christ was and he died on the cross so he could take our place! And all we have to do is trust in him and ask him to save us!

  2. Why if God is real he would take a loved one away from us? I am a believer and was baptized in 2014 and am asking for my friend/boss because I cannot answer that question sufficiently for him. I am still finding my way back to religion and here is where I continue. Thank you so much for being here to guide all of Gods children.

    1. Hi Joshua, question you ask is a difficult one, and one that many people have wrestled with, both Christian and non-Christian. I think it is important to realize that this isn’t a particularly Christian question, in that every worldview must answer it; in other words, if we conclude that Christianity is false, the question of why people die remains.

However, I do not believe the reality of the Christian God is irreconcilable with death and suffering. Christianity teaches that we live in a broken world as a result of conscious choices by humans to assert independence from God, who is the giver of life and wholeness. God did not create us as fallen creatures who suffer and die, nor was that his plan, but we deviated from his plan, and so experience suffering and death apart from Him. John 3:16 says that the reason Jesus came and died and rose again was to redeem and rescue our broken situation, and give humans a second chance at life and wholeness in right relationship with our creator.

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

We do not always know why people experience death and suffering. It could be a direct attack by spiritual darkness, it could be the results of my own poor choices, or I could be a victim of someone else’s poor choices and selfishness. In our broken natural world, we can be the victims of natural disasters such as falling trees, earthquakes, lightning strikes or predator attacks. And of course, God can choose to intervene and take us into eternity if he chooses as well. We never really know WHY things happen to us and our loved ones, but we can live in hope, knowing that our creator has not abandoned us to our brokenness, but is actively working in the world to redeem it and us. Not only that, but he has promised to return one day, and rule over his redeemed creation, where the brokenness will have been healed, and death and suffering are forever destroyed.

And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.”
      Revelation 21:3-5
