Good Morning Fellow Travelers,
Read: Matthew 25:1-13
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat…. Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” (2Pe 3:10-13)
Let’s consider the return of Christ, also known as “The Second Coming.”
Matthew 24-25 gives us some guidance on this topic. The 25th chapter begins with the parable of the ten virgins who awaited the return of the bridegroom. Today, being ready for the return of Christ is of utmost importance.
What does this oil in these lamps represent? In this story, the five virgins without oil were foolish. On the other hand, Jesus called the other five virgins wise because they had oil. If you are an unbeliever, you fit the description of the foolish. But I think that this story could also be speaking of professing Christians who are careless.
Let’s make some application. Why did the virgins have no oil with them? Was it a deficiency of God’s grace? No, this deficiency lay with them. Are you lacking oil in a spiritual sense? We know the Bridegroom (Jesus) is coming. Are you ready?
Check your heart. Do you find a lack of confession and repentance in your life? Does your life follow an unhealthy cycle of a lack in obedience, surrender, love, peace, meekness, humility, purity, forgiveness, and prayer? Remember that when Christ returns, we can no longer change our sinful ways.
Do you and I have enough oil in our lamps to finish well? Those who have passed away will wake at the judgment call to be judged and give account for their lives. Jesus is coming whether we are ready or not. Are you ready for His second coming? Submit your heart to Jesus today.
