Voltaire, a famous French philosopher, was an atheist. He scorned the Bible. He once made a very bold statement: “One hundred years from today the Bible will be a forgotten book.” Voltaire died May 30th, 1778 and is perhaps forgotten or unknown by most people in the world. The Bible is still the most sold and the most recognized book in the world.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) Why would you read the Bible? Isn’t the Bible just an ancient book of myths, totally outdated, and completely out of touch with modern society? Many people feel that way. Other people view it as a dangerous book. Totalitarian governments realize that they lose their control over people who read and believe the Bible. So they try to minimize the presence of Bibles in their country.
