Servanthood

Sept 29, 2020

Good Morning Fellow Travelers,

Read: John 13:1-16

For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves. (Luk 22:27 NKJV)

Jesus came to serve. He proved this by everything He did and said. Jesus served His disciples and washed their feet at the last Passover meal.

We may have great visions of serving overseas and working in adventurous places. However, being a true servant is often mundane and ordinary and may involve activities that seem trivial and are hardly recognized. Jesus was an excellent example of serving with humility throughout His life. He rejected the pecking order that we often see today.

Do you want to wave a sceptre? How about learning first to use a hoe. Do you really want to serve? Learn obedience first by the things you suffer. Learn to serve with your heart and hands. Jesus said that those who are faithful in little will also be faithful in much.

Self-effort and pride must be purged from your heart. Hit the back streets of your town or nearby city with a bag full of Gospel tracts and learn the reality and blessing of service. Visit a nearby jail and experience close encounters with desperate people who need Jesus. Learn to sow seeds in love so you may enjoy the blessings that come. Serve with a willing and humble heart.
