Of One Blood

Read: Acts 17:16-33

“And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation” (Acts 17:26).

When Jesus said “God so loved the world,” He was not referring to the natural earth but rather to the world of men. God loves men, women, and children so much that He gave His Son to die for us, so that we need not die but have everlasting life. This is for everyone regardless of color, race, ethnicity, location, or rank in society.

We are all made of one blood. The blood that flows in the veins of native Chinese is the same blood that flows in the veins of a white Canadian or a black African. God made every man in His own image, regardless of race. We should simply humble ourselves and acknowledge this truth. The racial conflicts that come and go are the devil’s work in our fallen world.

God is not far from any of the world’s peoples and nations. We are all His offspring, and to look down on any people is sin. Political movements have championed Black Power and White Power and First Nations’ Power and Aryan Power, but these have not proclaimed the love that God has for all men equally. Idolizing race and color has driven men apart and caused much bloodshed. This is not God’s will, for in Him we all “live, and move, and have our being.”

In the Old Testament era, God winked at the idolatry and ignorance of men, but since the coming of Jesus Christ into the world, He calls us all to repent. He tells us to put away our man-made idols of race and false religion, and to turn to the One who died to save mankind. Christ shed His perfect blood on Calvary, so that all people can find forgiveness for their sins. This is for you, me, and everyone else.

The love of Christ allows no barriers between men.
