God’s Inspired Word

March 22, 2019

Good Morning Fellow Travelers,

Read: Psalms 119

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

Voltaire, a famous French philosopher, was an atheist. He scorned the Bible. He once made a very bold statement: “One hundred years from today the Bible will be a forgotten book.” Voltaire died May 30th, 1778 and is perhaps forgotten or unknown by most people in the world. The Bible is still the most sold and the most recognized book in the world.

The Bible contains God’s inspired Word that cannot pass away or be destroyed. Though man may ridicule and despise the Bible, it’s truth will remain. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my Words will never pass away.” (Matthew 24:35)

We can study and meditate upon God’s Word to receive life. The psalmist says, “This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your Word has given me life.” (Psalm 119:50). Just as God breathed into the first man Adam the breath of life and he became a living soul, so we can receive spiritual awakening and life as we meditate on and live out God’s Word.

Believers are fortified and strengthened as they receive life from God’s Word. They have God’s Word as a weapon. Ephesians 6:17 says “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Jesus is our perfect example of overcoming evil with God’s Word. Jesus said to the tempter… “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only’” (Matthew 4:10) The psalmist says… “Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” (Psalm 119:11)

God’s Word provides hope for humanity. Not only are we awakened, enlivened, and strengthened by God’s Word, but we are also given hope for the future. When the Word became flesh and lived among us, Jesus not only showed us how to live and was crucified to rescue us from sin, but He also was resurrected the third day to give us hope. God’s Word says… “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.” (1 Corinthians 15:19) God’s Word reveals to us the truth of the resurrection and Heaven.

God’s Word reveals Heaven and its glory to us. Jesus told his disciples that in His Fathers house are many mansions and that He is going to prepare a place for those who trust His Word. Anyone who follows and obeys Jesus can have hope beyond the grave. We can trust in God’s Word to strengthen us, give us hope, and guide us home.
