Feelings of Faith

Jan 6, 2020

Good Morning Fellow Travelers,

Read: Gal 3:10-29

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” (Rom 15:13 KJV)

Did you awake this morning and harbor doubts about your Christian life? Maybe you did not feel like a Christian. Did you know that if we allow the devil to do so, he will attempt to lead us to an experiential, feeling-based relationship with God that is really no relationship at all? 2 Corinthians 5:7 says that we walk by faith, not by sight.

Faith is what God wants to see in us. He wants us to move beyond fickle feelings to grip spiritual realities. He wants to see a faith in us; a faith that God can call righteousness, like Abraham enjoyed. We must fight through our emotions, feelings, and moods to a true devotion to God. We so often mistake our emotions and feelings for the deeper life, only to find that they hinder the deeper life we seek. Feelings that are out of control often wreak havoc on faith. They tend to lead us from experience to experience. We do not base our experience in Christ on feelings. We believe in Him and what He did for us, because of what His word says. He wants us to claim the blessing of His finished work.

We are going to keep this simple. Do you battle with a lack of assurance awake in the night with doubts like I do sometimes. I would like to introduce you to the simplest remedy I know. Follow these simple steps to trust:

  • Tell God you rejoice to know Him and His Son, Jesus. Quote John 17: 3. “And this is eternal life, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” This has raised a cloud off of my soul many times. Your joy sends the right message to Satan. Memorize Philippians 3:10.
  • Recount, ruminate over, and then repeat your faith in God. Say simply, “I believe in God and in His Son Jesus, who died for my sins. I believe He rose again the third day and by that secured for me the truth that I, too, have risen.” By saying this, you prove and strengthen your faith.
  • Now resist the devil by simply ordering him to go.
  • Thank God for the consolation of His presence.

Romans 15:13 says, “The God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the Holy Spirit.” Now, go back to sleep. You are in good hands.
