A Time to Keep Silent

December 11, 2018

Good Morning Fellow Travelers,

Read: Isaiah 53

“For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.” Isaiah 30:15

We do not observe the kingdom of God coming with pomp and show. It was not proclaimed with a lot of noise or emotion. In fact, many of the people that Jesus healed were asked to tell no one what had taken place. Some did not listen and went to tell everyone they met, because of their joy.

We are amazed how few are the times that Jesus even lifted up His voice. Our text records that Christ, like a lamb to be killed, opened not His mouth. There was no deceit in His words. His strength was expressed in quietness and confidence; even to the very end, He stood quietly before Pilate.

Words are important, even though Christ’s spoken words were few. One can read everything John recorded that Jesus said in a few hours. His quiet life and confidence in His Father’s will was His greatest and most powerful testimony.

While we are called to proclaim with our lips the Gospel message, and we must do that faithfully, there is an equally great need for a life lived in quietness and confidence. People today are deprived too often of this example. They do not ask so much to be told as they do to be shown by living example. We must show them how the Gospel works by revealing its relevance to today’s world.

The strength of the Gospel is its valid claim to change a man or woman from a loud and boisterous sinner into a quiet, confident saint. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” As the Way, He shows us how to walk, and where to walk. As the Truth, He give us a correct worldview. As the Life, He shows us how to live.
